Poem: On Love

It starts with a flutter
In the base of your stomach
And travels through your chest
Cutting off your air
Until you say something

Completely stupid

You can’t help but laugh
Hoping they find you endearing
They’ll smile and brush it off
You’re cheeks will grow red
And they’ll take your hand

You leave

And they forget to call you
Your bed is left cold
Arms are wrapped around someone new
You can’t help the sad smile
That blooms on your face

Tears drip

Your chest tightens again
This time it hurts
Causing the butterflies
To wither and die
Leaving you with another slice

Embedded in your heart
