The First Snowfall

school 041

Photo property of Megan Stewart

The heat breaks
The sun retreats
Fog rolls in
The clouds descend

No more spring in her step
No blazing glory
It’s time to come in
The summer night is ending

Leaves wither and fall
Caress the ground in gentle touches
Blades of grass
Dance with the wind

Snow gathers near the base
The epitaph now faded
Water trickles through the letters
Words now just a whisper

Time comes to a halt
Tears cascade dan her cheeks
What once was lost will never be forgotten
A love like that will never repeat
